HandySpan helps homeowners on the Costa del Sol find local tradespeople. This policy explains what personal data we collect and why. It also explains who sees it and what rights you have. We have kept it as plain as we can.
Who is responsible for your data
The controller is Michael James Stacey, trading as HandySpan (also "Equipo de HandySpan"), NIE Y0778583R, CC La Trocha, B020, 29100 Coín, Málaga, Spain. For anything about your data write to hello@handyspan.com. We have not appointed a data protection officer.
Who this covers
- Homeowners who post a job
- Tradespeople who register
- Professionals we contact about joining HandySpan

What we collect
Homeowners who post a job
Your name, phone number and email. The job details: category, size, description, town, postcode if you give it, budget range, timeline, parking and licence or planning permission status. The languages you speak and the language of the page you used. A Job ID. If you cancel a job we also keep the reason you give and the time.
Tradespeople who register
Your business name and type, phone number and email. Your DNI, NIE or CIF, which we ask for when you join the waiting list so we can verify you quickly at launch and spot duplicate registrations. We never show it to homeowners. Your address and postcode (we cross-check the address against your ID and never show it to homeowners) and your website if you give one. When HandySpan launches we will also ask for front and back copies of your ID and proof of insurance if you upload it. Your trades, coverage area, experience and languages. Your account number and whether another tradesperson referred you. How you heard about us. The date you agreed to us storing your details and emailing you about the launch. Once HandySpan launches we also record the date you accept our terms. We send launch updates by email. If you tick the optional WhatsApp box we also send them on WhatsApp and we record that choice and its date. Every update email has a link to stop them and we keep a record that you stopped. Once you use HandySpan we also keep the jobs you show interest in and the jobs you are selected for. We also keep your Job Coins balance and movements and our approval decision with any reason for rejection.
Professionals we contact
If we contact you before you register we use business contact details that are publicly available, such as your business name, trade, town, phone number or email. If you ask us we will tell you where we found them.
Website visitors
Our hosting provider keeps standard technical logs such as IP address, browser and time of visit. If you log in as a tradesperson your browser stores a login session.

Who sees your data
If you are a homeowner
Tradespeople who match your job see the job details but not your name, phone number or email. When you choose a tradesperson (up to 3) we share your name, phone number and email with the ones you choose and we share theirs with you. From then on each tradesperson is responsible for how they use your details. Our terms say they may only use them to deal with your job.
If you are a tradesperson
Homeowners choosing a tradesperson see your business name, experience, languages and your rating or New badge. They do not see your phone number or email until they select you.
Our service providers
We use these providers to run HandySpan and we ask each to protect your data: Airtable (our database), Make (automation), Supabase (tradesperson login), Google Drive (storing ID documents), Resend and Zoho Mail (email), DeepL (translating job descriptions between English and Spanish), Netlify (website hosting), Cloudflare (website visit statistics and blocking automated form submissions) and Instantly and WhatsApp (contacting tradespeople about joining). We do not sell your data. We may share data with public authorities where the law requires it.
Transfers outside the EU
Some providers are based in or process data in countries outside the European Economic Area including the United States. Where that happens we rely on an EU adequacy decision such as the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or on the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.
How long we keep it
- Jobs: 24 months after the job is completed or cancelled. Then we delete or anonymise them.
- Tradesperson accounts including ID copies: while your account is active. After you close it we delete or anonymise the data within 12 months.
- ID copies and other documents from applications we reject: deleted within 30 days.
- Job Coins and invoice records: for the period Spanish tax and accounting law requires.
- Professionals we contact who have not registered: until you opt out or until 24 months pass without any contact from you.
- Opt-out list: for as long as needed to make sure we do not contact you again.
Your rights
You can ask us to give you access to your data or correct it or delete it. You can ask us to limit or stop how we use it. You can ask for a copy in a portable format and you can withdraw consent at any time. Write to hello@handyspan.com. We reply within one month and may ask you to confirm who you are. To stop marketing messages use our stop messages page. Homeowners can also cancel a job at any time on the Check Job page.
If you are not happy with our answer you can complain to the Spanish data protection authority (AEPD) at aepd.es.
Security
ID copies are kept in restricted storage that only HandySpan administrators can open. Your DNI, NIE or CIF is also visible only to HandySpan administrators. Our website uses HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach puts your rights at risk we will tell you and the AEPD as the law requires.
Cookies and similar technologies
We only use what is needed to run the site such as the login session for tradespeople. We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics which sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. Our forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to block automated submissions. Cloudflare also uses the signals it checks to improve its bot detection (see its Turnstile Privacy Addendum). Our fonts are hosted on our own site. Full details are on our Cookies page. If we add anything that needs your consent we will ask first.
Children
HandySpan is for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters we will update the date at the top and tell registered tradespeople by email.
